Pauline was born in Oswestry but came to Stafford as a girl when her parents took on running Springfield Children’s Home on the corner of Stone Road and North Avenue I came into her life when I arrived at Springfield in 1957 as a 16 year old boy.

She always wanted to be a nurse and after qualifying she worked in the Operating Theatres in the old hospital on Foregate Street and eventually became Sister in Charge. As a result of this she was asked to commission the theatres in the new County Hospital This led on to her becoming  Assistant Director of Nursing Services One of her tasks was to give talks to groups about the new hospital and it was as a result of one of these that she joined the Soroptimists where she became local President Regional President and Secretary of the national Benevolent Fund.

In the meantime we got married so you could say I married the boss’ daughter and we moved to Walton-on-the-Hill where we worshipped at St Thomas’.  Pauline  became Secretary to the PCC and very involved in the life of the church.

She retired from the NHS after the sixth time of having to apply for her job and joined a nursing agency called Medacs as Clinical Adviser.

She also joined the Board of Governors of Stafford Grammar School finishing as Vice Chairman.

We had many interests but the biggest and best was caravanning.  We also loved Formula 1 motor racing as well as theatre and music concerts.

I have known Pauline for 63 years and been married to her for 54. It has been very rewarding and filled with love. I miss her deeply and pray she now rests in God’s peace. The staff at Maple Court Nursing Home have been marvellous but it was still unbearable to be separated in this time of lockdown
