Some of you may know the song 'Love of my life' by Queen, which was played as my darling wife entered the chapel. She really was the love of my life. Its a favourite of mine as it always reminds me of the time fifty four years ago when Gillian, the love of my life, entered my life as an eighteen year old looking for a job as a sales assistant at my shoe shop in Gloucester. Beautiful looking girl wearing a shotsilk dress and the high backcombed hair so fashionable in the 1960's. I had no hesitation in offering her the job and so began a partnership of JOY, LOVE AND ADVENTURE.
JOY when our dear son Brent was born and JOY when we were blessed with a sister for him and a lovely daughter for us. LOVE as our family unit grew together over the years and the love of my life partnered me through our heartbreak and happiness. ADVENTURE as Gill and I embarked on 37 years of loading the car up and travelling on holidays to as many countries as our car insurance would allow. Gillian, love of my life so looked forward each year to our ADVENTURE as she used to put it and I would love to say to her where would you like to go this year? And she would think about it and come up with a destination which inevitably she knew would keep me quiet - planning. Devoted to our children, grandchildren and our little great grandchild, love of my life, 54 years of sharing and devotion always considered to ourselves to be a team. We will all miss our darling Gillian, she was so brave. We will love her for ever. God bless my sweetheart. Max
